Bournemouth police arrest man, 20, after 'beautiful' mum fatally stabbed on beach

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was fatally stabbed on a beach in Bournemouth, Dorset Police has said. Officers were called to report that two women from Poole had been stabbed on Durley Chine Beach at about 11.45pm on Friday, May 24.

Amie Gray, 34, was pronounced dead at the scene, while a 38-year-old who was taken to hospital with serious injuries is still receiving treatment.

Dorset Police said on Tuesday evening (May 28) that a 20-year-old man from Croydon, south London, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

The force worked with the Metropolitan Police to make the arrest.

Det Supt Richard Dixey of Dorset Police's Major Crime Investigation Team said the investigation has progressed at speed in recent days, leading to the arrest being made in London.

He added: "Officers from Dorset Police intelligence and firearms teams worked together with colleagues from the Metropolitan Police to carry out the arrest.

"We are continuing to update the loved ones of the woman who tragically died, as well as the victim in hospital, with all the latest developments and our thoughts remain with them."

A boy, aged 17, has been released without charge. Dorset Police said the boy from Lancashire had been "eliminated from inquiries" after investigations over the weekend.

After news of her death, tributes have been paid to Ms Gray, who was a personal trainer and mother. Her wife, Sian Gray, described her as a "forever loved wife and mother". She added: "Sunsets will always remind us of you."

Friend Nicola Smale paid tribute to "a beautiful person inside and out", adding: "Fly high Amie Gray. I'll miss you so much.

"I feel so heavy! You were such a good friend and someone I could call about anything. A beautiful person inside and out. Thank you for all the laughs and memories I will cherish forever."

Det Supt Dixey thanked everyone who has provided information so far and repeated his appeal for witnesses that have not already come forward to contact Dorset Police.

He added the enhanced policing presence in Bournemouth will stay in place and encouraged anyone with concerns to speak to any officer who will listen and give advice.
