Charrington Tower fire 'seems to be over' as photos emerge of aftermath

Witnesses at the scene of the fire have suggested the blaze appears to be under control.

Resident Giorgio Bonfiglio wrote on X: "The fire in Charrington Tower seems to be over. One flat destroyed, the ones around it damaged.

"Cladding seems to be fine which is good news, wooden balconies not so much."

One witness claimed there was "no fire alarm" going off in the building despite the blaze.

Writing on X, the site formerly known as Twitter, Tushar Madan said: "#Fire in Charrington Tower, Blackwall, London. No fire alarms working on any floors."

In another Tweet, Mr Wood added: "This is why you must close all doors inside and outside if there is a fire (if you can).

"The last fire in New Providence Wharf opposite this tower, the person left the balcony and front door open when he left when the fire started which allowed the fire to spread internally and externally."
