Rail fare hikes ‘to force 2m on roads’
RISING rail fares could force two million passengers off public transport and on to the roads, a survey revealed yesterday.
Train companies are introducing rises of up to 13.89 per cent next month.
Now fed-up commuters warn they will go back to driving rather than pay the cost of season tickets.

A survey by job site reed.co.uk found one in four people plan to change how they commute next year.
Fare rises were the main reason, hitting seven per cent – the equivalent of two million workers.
Martin Warnes, of reed.co.uk, said: “Many feel driving to work alone in their cars will be their only option.”
Chief executive of the Campaign for Better Transport, Stephen Joseph, said: “We are appalled that fare increases, as set out in the Government’s plans, could force people off public transport. This survey shows that this is a real cause for concern.”
