Joy for transplant girl, 12
A SCHOOLGIRL who had a blood transfusion every week for two years to beat a rare illness has been given the gift of life just in time for a magical Christmas.
Emilia Hubbard was months from death after she was diagnosed with the blood disorder aplastic anaemia.
The 12-year-old had to have 104 transfusions because her body stopped producing blood cells. Doctors scoured the world for a suitable bone marrow donor. And a 24-year-old man – a 90 per cent match – was finally found in America.

The transplant in October 2009 was a success and doctors have now given Emilia a clean bill of health.
Brave Emilia, from Cambridge, said: “I’d say most days are a nine out of 10 now, but Christmas Day will be a 10 out of 10 day.”
