Filthy surprise for genteel Suffolk
A SEARCH by a seaside county for an image to reflect its genteel charms has backfired – with an internet poll being topped by the pierced goth singer Dani Filth of hard rock band Cradle Of Filth.
The organisation Choose Suffolk asked people to submit their photographs of landscapes, people or products for a Suffolk Icons contest.
Expected nominations were for coastal beach huts, landscapes, historic buildings and prominent locals like former Ipswich Town manager Sir Bobby Robson.
But Filth, 37, the self-styled ‘crypt-crawling’ frontman of Cradle of Filth, formed in Suffolk in 1991, recorded 13,025 votes, 11,806 more than the nearest rival image.
Cheating has not been suggested. But Choose Suffolk is re-staging the poll with a shortlist of only 20 approved images – and no Filth.
