Pete Postlethwaite’s private farewell
OSCAR-nominated film star Pete Postlethwaite has been buried in a private ceremony attended by just a handful of friends and family.
The actor, 64, who died on January 2 of cancer, was laid to rest at a church near his home in Bishop’s Castle, Shropshire, on Saturday.
His cousin, Father Nick Postlethwaite, conducted the service which was kept under wraps. He said: “Pete was a very private man and his funeral reflected that. There will be other opportunities for the wider community to pay tribute to him.”
A memorial service is planned for the Brassed Off actor in London on February 16 when stars, including ex-lover Julie Walters, are expected to attend. Killing Bono, the last film of Postlethwaite – dubbed “the best actor in the world’’ by director Steven Spielberg – will be released in April.
