Boaters make waves over tolls
A ROW over tolls is sending ripples of discontent through the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads.
Boaters are furious at plans by the Broads Authority to spend an extra £200,000 of their toll money on its costs rather than on the wetlands.
The annual tolls should have been paid last month, but a number of boaters have refused.
Now Norfolk and Suffolk Boating Association, which has over 1,000 members and 50 clubs, may take legal action. Spokesman Garth Cooper said: “Frankly, we are disgusted with the whole thing.”
The authority said it had lost £1.1million in cuts to its National Park grant, forcing big changes.
Chairman Stephen Johnson said: “We are losing 30 posts to balance the budget while maintaining front-line services.”
