Gunmen kidnap Briton
GUNMEN have abducted a British contract worker and his Italian colleague in Nigeria’s north-west, thought to be a relatively safe haven for foreigners in the country.
Kebbi state police chief Adamu Hassan said the gunmen kidnapped the men, who were working on a new bank building, in the state capital, Birnin-Kebbi, on Thursday night.
Mr Hassan told Nigerian media the men were kidnapped from their apartment in the city when the raiders stormed in, screaming and shouting. One Nigerian engineer was shot and wounded while a German colleague managed to escape by scaling a fence. The police chief said a large amount of cash in the apartment was not taken as the gunmen were keen to get away as quickly as possible.
He was reported as saying a “horde of gunmen” stormed the apartment where the men were staying while working for Nigerian construction company B. Stabilini.
