Why parents just won’t ring
MORE than half of parents of grown-up children do not ring their offsprings’ mobile phones for fear the call will be too expensive.
Experts say it is leading to a breakdown in communications as many young people use only mobiles to talk.
A survey of 2,000 adults by TalkTalk found one in seven waits for their children to ring them because of perceived costs. As a result 29 per cent of parents regularly go for a week or more without getting a call.
The company has now launched a package that includes cheap calls to mobiles.
Spokeswoman Tristia Clarke said: “Our research found 48 per cent said they would call their offspring’s mobile more often if they knew calls would cost a fixed monthly price.”
