St Paul’s forced to shut
THE doors of St Paul’s Cathedral were shut for the first time in 70 years yesterday because of an anti-capitalist mob.
The sprawling tent city that has sprung up outside the entrance in the past few days, with a swelling mass of Occupy London demonstrators, was declared a fire hazard because of the sheer number of gas stoves.
Earlier the Dean of St Paul’s, the Rev Graeme Knowle, asked the activists to move on but they remained defiant. St Paul’s has not been shut since the Second World War, when it survived the Blitz.
