OBE ‘humbles’ Duchess of Cambridge's wedding dress designer
THE designer who created the Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding dress said working on the coveted commission was a “real honour” as she received an OBE yesterday.
Sarah Burton, creative director at Alexander McQueen, was awarded the honour for her services to the British fashion industry.
She spent months making Kate’s intricate lace and satin dress for her wedding in April last year.
I’m very humbled and it’s a huge honour to be here. I’m very lucky
After receiving the OBE from the Prince of Wales at Buckingham Palace, Mrs Burton, 37, who is pregnant, said: “I’m very humbled and it’s a huge honour to be here. I’m very lucky.
"I’ve been given some amazing opportunities.” She added Kate’s dress “was a labour of love and a huge highlight of my career”.
Asked if she would make maternity clothes for Kate, she said: “I hope I will be”.
