We thought we would all die
HARRY IRONS, 88, is the only surviving Bomber Command member to have flown an astonishing 60 missions.
Harry, of Romford, Essex, said: “I flew two tours – 30 of my missions were over the Ruhr and to this day I wonder how I survived.
“We were all young, most weren’t married, and we all assumed each mission would be our last. Many were superstitious but I wasn’t, though, funny enough, I never wrote a last farewell letter.
