Scotland Yard may face fresh probe in Stephen Lawrence case
DAVID Cameron will this week hold urgent talks with Theresa May on whether there should be another inquiry into police handling of the Stephen Lawrence murder investigation
The Prime Minister pledged to speak to the Home Secretary about the case as early as tonight after he returns from visiting Afghanistan, Pakistan and Kazakhstan.
He is under pressure to order a new independent probe following claims the Met Police sought to smear the student’s family and friends after Stephen, 18, was killed in 1993 in south-east London.
Two inquiries relating to the case are already under way – one into corruption in the first investigation, the other into undercover policing going back several decades.
