Lord Justice Leveson faces quiz from MPs
LORD Justice Leveson is to be grilled by MPs about his plans for press regulation for the first time since delivering his report into the phone-hacking scandal.
No date has been set for his appearance at the Culture, Media and Sport Committee.
MPs are keen to quiz him after the growing political row about how to implement his recommendations.
The Government and the newspaper industry have rival plans for a watchdog to replace the Press Complaints Commission.
David Cameron said yesterday there were “serious shortcomings” about the newspaper industry proposals.
Most newspapers support a Royal Charter that would avoid any state underpinning for the regulatory regime.
But in a letter to Culture Secretary Maria Miller yesterday, victims of press intrusion called for the Government to bring forward fresh proposals next week.
