Benefit cheat mum is let-off to enjoy summer evenings with her children
A BENEFIT cheat who falsely claimed £10,000 has had her electronic tag removed early, so she can enjoy the summer evenings outdoors with her children.
Kelly McLean, 41, was put on a 7pm to 7am curfew for six months at Chelmsford Crown Court, Essex, in April after admitting failing to reveal a change in circumstances.
But London’s Court of Appeal ruled her sentence excessive.
Her solicitor said the 41-year-old mother of two, from Great Dunmow, Essex, wanted to go to the park with her children, who were suffering due to the curfew.
Allowing the appeal, Lord Justice Moore-Bick said: “She can go out and enjoy the summer.”
McLean failed to tell the Work and Pensions Department about an inheritance while claiming income support. She has repaid the cash.
