Sex case MP Mike Hancock apologises for his "inappropriate" friendship
DISGRACED MP Mike Hancock made a grovelling apology yesterday to a woman for his “inappropriate” friendship with her.
The 68-year-old, who resigned the Lib Dem whip in 2013, also admitted he was wrong to accuse her of simply trying to make money.
The shock statement comes after the woman, known only as “Annie”, settled her claim for sexual assault against the MP, who is being treated for depression.
Mr Hancock’s High Court apology told the woman: “In October 2009, you came to me as a constituent to seek my assistance as your MP.
"I came to your home on several occasions and conducted a friendship that was inappropriate and unprofessional.
I made you feel uncomfortable. I crossed the line
“I understand you felt degraded.
"I did not treat you with respect.
"I made you feel uncomfortable.
"I crossed the line.”
Mr Hancock, MP for Portsmouth South since 1984, added: “I accept you did not bring the claim for financial gain and statements to the contrary were wrong.”
Solicitors for “Annie” said Mr Hancock was no longer fit to be an MP.
