Big Yin lends voice to Scots movie
THE Scots’ computer genius behind cinema’s biggest blockbusters is set to make Hollywood’s first all-Scottish animated movie starring Billy Connolly and Reese Witherspoon.
Angus MacLane, whose latest family film, ‘Wall-E’, opens tomorrow (Fri), has already been scouting locations in the Highlands for ideas for the new flick which entitled ‘The Bear and the Bow.’[>

He works for Pixar, the creators of multi-million earning animated hits such as ‘Toy Story,’ ‘The Incredibles,’ and ‘Ratatouille’.[>

Their latest production, ‘Wall-E’ tells the story of the last robot, or human, left on Earth, with the film set 700 years in the future.[>

But MacLane, whose parents emigrated from Lennoxtown, Glasgow, when he was four, said: “Reese will voice Merida, a princess in mythical Scotland who prefers to be an archer.[>

“She sets off an ancient curse that threatens the kingdom and her mother’s life. Billy Connolly and Emma Thompson are also lending their voice work.”[>

Friday’s opening of WALL-E - a futuristic story about a lovesick, garbage-collecting robot left alone on an abandoned planet earth - has already won huge critical acclaim.[>

The filmmaker, who is Pixar’s animations director in control of a vast army of computer artists, said he is excited by the Scottish project.[>

He added: “It is a fantastic story set in mythical Scotland. Though a daughter of royalty, Merida would prefer to make her mark as a great archer.”[>
