Barclays facing customer backlash after credit card glitch
BARCLAYS is facing a customer backlash and a potential fine after thousands of credit card customers were left in the lurch.
Many Barclays customers will be left without credit for up to five days
Its Barclaycard phone line was deluged with complaints after it failed to send out up to 26,000 card renewals at the start of the month.
The replacement cards, normally delivered up to three weeks before existing cards expire, were held up by technical and production problems.
Customers who found their old cards being declined at many outlets then received a text on Friday, warning of a further delay until Tuesday.
It means many customers will be left without credit for up to five days.
One cardholder, from Surrey, said: “I had asked about my card several times but they kept saying it was about to be sent out.

They eventually admitted they’d had a huge problem
“It never arrived and, with my existing card being declined, they eventually admitted they’d had a huge problem. It’s a complete mess.”
Barclaycard has been switching its service from MasterCard to Visa but the “mass migration” hit a glitch.
A service manager said: “There has been an error and we have to hold our hands up to that. We can only apologise.”

Customers were also left without access to cash after technical issues hit the High Street bank’s debit card last October.
