Morale has hit rock bottom amid crippling shortages, which critics claim have left Britain exposed to terrorists and organised crime.
According to the Civil Service employment survey, Border Force is one of the worst performing Government agencies, with only one in five of those surveyed saying they believed the service is “well-run”, or have “confidence in the decisions made by senior management”.

Poor leadership is also a problem, with 28 per cent saying the actions of senior management is “consistent with the organisation’s values” and only 19 per cent said senior managers “inspire people”.
The Government’s priority should be to support the Border Force
Those guarding our borders also claim a lack of support, with only 40 per cent saying they have been “given the tools to do the job”.
Last night Shadow Home Secretary Andy Burnham said: “These figures paint a picture of a Border Force struggling to cope at the very moment security needs tightening.
“The Government’s priority should be to support the Border Force. Instead, Theresa May is trying desperately to hide her plans for cuts this year and next.”
Home Office insiders have revealed that Border Force staff have been told to expect £88million of cuts – or a six per cent reductions – to their budget this year.
However, the official budget has still yet to be published.
Shadow Civil Service minister Louise Haigh MP added: “Instead of being tough on the causes of crime, the Tories are tough on the fighters of crime.”
