Labour backbencher Paul Flynn said: “Many MPs are as outraged as the public about the recent excesses that have been exposed.”
Tory leader David Cameron last week called on Prime Minister Gordon Brown to stage an “expenses summit” of the three party leaders to sort the issue out.
Tory chairman Eric Pickles, who was booed by the audience on the BBC’s Question Time last month when defending his expenses, said: “I cannot justify MPs claiming for flatscreen televisions, buying beds, three-piece suites, cookers, microwaves.”
