Beaten in her own BED: Defenceless woman, 90, attacked by intruder in 'sickening' assault
A 90-YEAR-OLD woman has been left with horrific injuries after being repeatedly attacked by an intruder who broke into her home as she slept.
Sadiq Khan accepts blame for rising violence in London
Iris Warner, from Brent, north west-London, was rushed to hospital after being beaten in her own bed earlier this month.
The defenceless pensioner was discovered by her son Jeffrey, 60, and rushed to hospital.
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said he was appalled by the "sickening attack".
Harrowing images show Mrs Warner suffered severe bruising to her face and down the entire length of her body.
The photographs, taken in hospital, were released as her family desperately appeal for the public to come forward with information.
Mrs Warner told police she remembers being woken up in bed by a man standing over her and being struck in the face multiple times.
The attack is believed to have happened at some point between Saturday June 2 and Monday June 4.
Since being taken to hospital, her condition has since improved but she requires ongoing treatment.
The person responsible must be brought to justice
Her son Jeffrey said: "We are shocked and appalled at the violence used against our mother Iris, better known as Anne to her friends and family – a defenceless 90-year-old-woman.
"It has left us feeling stunned and sickened.
"We appeal for anyone with information that could assist police in their investigation to come forward.
"The person responsible must be brought to justice."
Scotland Yard said Mrs Warner's bedroom had been left in a "messy manner" but the force has not yet established if anything was stolen.
Detective Inspector Saj Hussain said: "This was a horrific attack carried out on a very vulnerable elderly woman in her own home and must have been absolutely terrifying for Iris.
"She has various medical complications on top of the injuries sustained in the assault that are likely to keep her in hospital for a very long time.
"Her family are desperate for any information from the public that could help us catch this man.
"I'd like to remind the public that crimes of this nature are incredibly rare, so we do not want the public to be alarmed.
"It always pays to be vigilant about anyone acting suspiciously that you see and to ensure that your home is as secure as you can make it."
