Donald Trump's new VP pick JD Vance brutally mocks the UK with one huge statement

J.D. Vance, the first-term Senator who has been picked as Donald Trump's Vice Presidential candidate, made the comments in a speech last week.

Donald Trump's running mate JD Vance brutally mocked the UK just days before he was formally selected by the party on Monday, branding it will the "first truly Islamist country that will get a nuclear weapon".

Speaking at the National Conservativism conference on Thursday, he told attendees: "I have to beat up on the UK - just one additional thing. I was talking with a friend recently.

"We were talking about, you know, one of the big dangers in the world, of course, is nuclear proliferation, though, of course, the Biden administration doesn't care about it.

"And I was talking about, you know, what is the first truly Islamist country that will get a nuclear weapon and we were like, maybe it's Iran, you know, maybe Pakistan already kind of counts and then we sort of finally decided maybe it's actually the UK, since Labour just took over."

Despite the dig at Britain's new Labour government, Vance reportedly has good relations with UK Foreign Secretary, David Lammy.

Mr Lammy met Mr Vance in May ahead of Labour's election victory earlier this month, and has talked up their close ties.

In recent times, some Republican lawmakers have repeated nonsensical claims about a "massive Muslim takeover" in the UK government, claiming something similar could happen in the US.

Critics say the narrative, for which there is no evidence, is an attempt to stir up anti-immigration sentiment.

Trump last night officially named Vance as his VP pick. This comes as he recovers from a shocking attempt on his life as he spoke at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.

The 78-year-old Republican nominee was shot in the ear as a gunman opened fire at an open-air event, and despite being swarmed by Secret Service protectors, the former president briefly defiantly raised a defiant fist to lead a chant of "fight, fight, fight".

The suspected shooter, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was killed by law enforcement following the attack, in which one person died and two others were hospitalised in a critical condition.

Newly elected UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has committed to working with Trump should he be elected in November, and spoke with the Republican in the wake of the assassination attempt.

Trump took to his Truth Social platform to announce his VP pick on Monday, stating: "After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio."

He continued to extol Vance's virtues, stating: "J.D. honourably served our Country in the Marine Corps, graduated from Ohio State University in two years, Summa Cum Laude, and is a Yale Law School Graduate, where he was Editor of The Yale Law Journal, and President of the Yale Law Veterans Association."

Trump also celebrated Vance's cultural impact, noting: "J.D's book, 'Hillbilly Elegy,' became a Major bestseller and movie, as it championed the hardworking men and women of our country."
