Why mum's an iron lady
MOTHERS can wash a staggering 39 tons of clothes over their lifetime, a survey revealed yesterday.
That’s the equivalent of four old-style red London buses.
An average housewife works her way through five loads of family washing a week, or 6,500 loads over 25 years.
Those in Northern Ireland do most washing – nearly 280 loads a year – with those in the South-east doing the least at 219 loads a year, according to research by Persil.
But only one in 20 always does full loads while only half of all loads are washed at 30 degrees or less, both of which would be more environmentally friendly.
