Four killed in military plane crash
A small Indonesian military plane has crashed on Borneo, killing four of the nine passengers and crew aboard, reports suggest.
The plane was found in two pieces near a village in East Kalimantan, along with four bodies, the Antara state news service reported, citing police officials.
Five other people were seriously injured, the report said.
The Nomad P837 light aircraft was on routine patrol when it lost contact with air traffic control at about 6am GMT, navy spokesman Rear Admiral Iskandar Sitompul said.
The plane was flying between regional airports on the Indonesian half of Borneo island, which is shared with northern neighbour Malaysia, he said.
The Indonesian military has complained that its aircraft are outdated and poorly maintained due to a lack of money and a recently-lifted US ban on weapons sales.
The country is upgrading aviation safety regulations after commercial airline crashes in recent years killed more than 120 people, prompting a ban of Indonesian flights in EU airspace.
