Border helicopter crash kills 10
A border patrol helicopter has reportedly crashed in the south of Kazakhstan, killing 10 people and injuring three others.
The Mi-8 helicopter crashed in the Ugam canyon near the border with Uzbekistan, News agency Kazakhstan Today reported.
The agency said the helicopter was pursuing "six armed criminals" who were trying to cross the border in the mountainous and forested region.
The border between the Central Asian states has been tense for years, mostly due to the massive smuggling of goods from Kazakhstan into impoverished Uzbekistan which has imposed high tariffs on imports.
