Woman tells of bus crash horror
A woman who survived a bus crash in Ecuador that killed five British nationals has relived the horror scene.
Natalie Guzman-Leon, 24, worked as a tour guide and translator in Quito for gap year students.
She was on board the single decker bus that was in a crash with a lorry on April 12 2008 as the passengers made their way to a fishing village 12 hours from the capital to help build a library.
A statement from Miss Guzman-Leon was read to the inquest into the deaths at Macclesfield Town Hall, Cheshire.
She said: "The coach seemed to take an age to come to a halt.
"Everybody was silent at first then started screaming.
"It was very dark and I couldn't see clearly.
"I lost consciousness for a few seconds but when I regained consciousness I could see Sarah [Howard] lying on the floor on her back with her head in the corridor.
"I couldn't see any obvious injuries."
Miss Howard, 26, a tour leader from Northwich, Cheshire, was dead, along with gap year students Emily Sadler, 19, of Northwood, Hertfordshire; Rebecca Logie, 19, of Chorley, Lancs; Indira Swann, 18, of Maidenhead, Berkshire, and Elizabeth Pincock, 19, of Taunton, Somerset.
