Two dead, 12 hurt in China stabbing
A knife-wielding man has stabbed two people to death and wounded 12 others in central Beijing, despite there being increased security ahead of China's 60th anniversary celebrations.
The official Xinhua News Agency said Zhang Jianfei, of north-eastern Jilin province, attacked the people on Thursday night in Dashilan, the oldest commercial street in Beijing.
It said the wounded were taken to a nearby hospital, where two guards later died.
Xinhua gave no motive for the attack. It said Zhang was captured by police in Dashilan.
Extra security has been in place in Beijing ahead of the country's October 1 celebration to mark 60 years of communist rule.
