Michael Schumacher suffered a horror ski accident in December 2013 while on holiday in the French Alps. The former F1 star endured a serious head injury in the crash, and his health has been shrouded in secrecy ever since. But a former Ferrari team boss has opened up on Schumacher's recovery, and claimed his wife Corinna has been crucial to his survival.
Jean Todt, who is now the President of the FIA and formerly worked as the director of Ferrari's racing division from 1993-2008, said the F1 driver's survival was down to the work of his doctors and wife Corinna who "wanted him to survive".
Mr Todt, 75, said he has spent a lot of time with Corinna since the serious accident and appeared to admire her courage through the years.
He told Sport Bild: "I've spent a lot of time with Corinna since Michael had his serious skiing accident on December 29, 2013.
"She is a great woman and runs the family.
"She hadn't expected that. It happened suddenly and she had no choice.
"But she does it very well. I trust her, she trusts me."
The F1 boss then discussed Schumacher's recovery during his seven-year battle.
Mr Todt said: "Thanks to the work of his doctors and the cooperation of Corinna, who wanted him to survive, he survived - but with consequences.
