Vietnam to use lethal injections
Vietnamese politicians voted to retire firing squads and instead use lethal injections for executions.
State media has report that the new measure will take effect next year after passing the National Assembly on Thursday.
The switch came following years of criticism from international human rights groups who argue that death by firing squad is barbaric and that Vietnam doles out too many death sentences.
A paper issued by the assembly's standing committee said it was necessary to find a more humane method of carrying out executions.
