Iraqi Kurds hit by Turkish jets
TURKISH jets hit rebel Kurd positions in northern Iraq yesterday after an attack on a military outpost left eight soldiers and 12 Kurds dead.
Special forces were also sent to secure remote border areas after a recent upsurge in violence by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
It has staged a string of hit-and-run raids as it continues its decades-long struggle for independence in Turkey’s Kurd-dominated south-eastern region.
Turkish army officials say more than 40 soldiers have been killed since March and anticipate more attacks.
