Hague meets Pakistan prime minister
Foreign Secretary William Hague has held talks with Pakistan's prime minister after arriving in Islamabad for a three-day visit to the country.
Mr Hague met PM Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, before travelling to Karachi.
And in a new twist to VIP visits, he offered to answer questions via Twitter or Facebook from members of the public.
The Foreign Secretary said in a statement: "The new British Government is committed to a long-term, productive and friendly partnership with Pakistan.
"We view Pakistan as a long-term, strategic partner with whom we want to have even closer relations.
"The multiplicity of British connections to Pakistan through families and history gives Britain a particular role in supporting Pakistan's democratic future."
In Karachi, the Foreign Secretary will meet business leaders to discuss how to expand the UK's £1 billion trade with Pakistan.
The Foreign Office took the unusual step of inviting questions from the public via the Twitter tag #fsinpak.
Questions can also be asked of Mr Hague via the Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/bhcpakistan.
