The massive country with almost no tourists named among best places to visit in 2024
Angola emerges as a hidden treasure in the tourism world boasting breathtaking landscapes and overlooked cultural gems.
Angola has often been overlooked with the tourism sector in the vast country lagging behind those of Kenya and South Africa.
However, the Angolan government is taking steps to change this including the recent release of a quick approval tourism e-visa.
In the meantime, there are often big benefits to remaining under the tourism radar and Angola is no exception.
The capital, Luanda, is known for being a lively city while the rest of the country offers stunning landscapes and cultural treasures.
Among the top attractions is a Christ the King hilltop statue reminiscent of the famous one in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro which can be found in the second city Lubango.
In addition, the impressive 1,300-foot-wide Calendula Falls is another sight not to be missed.
However, travel to the country is not without some risks with the UK Foreign Office warning against all but essential travel to the province of Cabinda (but not including Cabinda city).

The Foreign Office also makes a point of warning of crime in the capital Luanda, saying: "There is a high level of crime in Luanda, some of it violent. Muggings, particularly to steal mobile phones and other valuables, and armed robberies can occur in any area at any time of the day or night.
"Areas popular with foreigners are particular targets. You should be particularly careful when withdrawing money from banks and ATMs both during daytime and at night, as people doing so have been the subject of armed robberies, some of which have been fatal."
