The 'dirty' European beach so ridiculously busy people get lost in crowds
As one of the best known beaches in Europe this ‘urban beach' is often packed - but some still love it.
It’s one of the best known beaches in Europe - so it’s perhaps little surprise that it’s often packed with tourists. But as well as it being busy - recently there have been a growing number of negative reviews.
But Benidorm’s Playa de Levante has been branded as "dirty" and "expensive" by visitors to the popular sun-trapped spot. Each and every year thousands of Brits and holidaymakers from across Europe make their way to this “urban beach” that is 2km long and runs from Punta Pinet to Punta Canfali.
It’s so well used, in part thanks to its fine golden sands, warm Mediterranean waters and often blazing sun due to its south facing orientation.
There are plenty of facilities too including lifeguard surveillance, sun loungers, foot showers and play areas for children - making it a perfect family destination.
And along the front there is also a popular promenade that boats an array of restaurants and bars. But lately those who have visited the beach have criticised it on review site TripAdvisor.
One user said: “Soooo busy and beds are very expensive. To [sic] much for the children to deal with so went back to our holiday hotel.”
Another said: “Too many people, couldn't see the beach for bodies! Benidorm is dirty and if you are a vegetarian don't visit this town.” But the beach still has its many fans - who have also raved about its plus points on the site.
One said: “The sands are golden and the beach is clean. The promenade runs parallel for the entire length.”
But they also warned: “There is however a shortage of toilet facilities.”

Another chimed in: “Absolutely beautiful beach well worth a visit, plenty of sun beds n [sic] parasols. You can walk the whole promenade taking in the sight while catching the sun, plenty of seats to stop n [sic] people watch.”
Thousands of Britons have moved in their droves and now call Benidorm and the wider region home.
Witnessing the city's rocketing growth, real estate developers have in recent decades built dozens of high-rise apartments — both luxury and affordable — including the Intempo skyscraper.
On completion in 2021, it became the tallest apartment building in the EU at 200 metres high.
But the landmark has split opinion - as to some, it is a grotesque eyesore whereas to others it marks an elevation of the no frills Spanish resort.
