EGYPT-CONSTRUCTION-INFRASTRUCTURE

From railway networks to entirely new cities, there are five megaprojects from across the globe that are due to be completed or have already been completed this year.

Saudi Arabia is creating a new luxury island resort that will be the holiday destination of the elite, whereas India is constructing a new airport to eventually accommodate over 90 million passengers a year. 

In Africa, Egpyt is making strides towards completing its eye-wateringly expensive new capital city that was also serve as its administrative hub, and Dubai is nearly ready to unveil the world's tallest hotel.

Some of these staggering feats of architecture are part of much larger projects, such as Egypt's mission to build a new capital city, which may not be entirely completed until later on in the future.

Navi Mumbai International Airport

The £1.6billion Navi Mumbai International Airport will be the city's second airport when it becomes operational later this year. 

Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, it is being constructed in three phases - the first of which will be completed this year and accommodate 25 million new passengers every year. 

The full project is scheduled for completion in 2032, by which time it will handle over 90 million passengers and 2.5 million tonnes of cargo annually. 

The 3.6 square mile airport required the relocation of 2,786 from 10 villages.

Sindalah isalnd

Sindalah Island is a luxury tourism project part of Saudi Arabia's NEOM initiative - a city, special economic zone, and legislative landmark in the country. 

Last year, the project secured a £600million loan for its development. It's located on beaches and islands in the Red Sea and joins three other megaprojects: Trojena, Oxagon, and The Line. 

It's set to be the first physical representation of NEOM and will feature a beach club, three luxury hotels, a yacht club, a golf course, a sports club, 51 luxury shops, and homes.

Ciel hotel

The Ciel Hotel in Dubai will become the world's tallest hotel-only building after six years under construction. 

The tower is a whopping 82 floors, the upper ones housing a bar and infinity pool, and will feature over 1,000 rooms, including 150 suites.

Standing tall in a city known for its opulence and luxury, the hotel cost £388million to complete and will define the skyline once completed.

Egypt's New Administrative Capital (NAC)

Egypt is currently constructing its New Administrative Capital (NAC), the first skyscraper of which has already been completed. 

Standing at 394 meters, it's the tallest building in Africa, 77 of which mainly consist of office space. 

It's one of 20 towers that will make up the country's new central business district and has been under construction since 2015 and will also become the new capital.

The entire capital is expected to cost about £31billion.
