Horrifying videos have captured the moment raging flood waters tore through a town in Murcia, Spain.
Tourist hotspots in the region have been hit by intense rainstorms speaking flooding in southern Spain and on the Balearic Islands.
According to unconfirmed reports on Spanish radio, people had become trapped in their cars in the water, with some showing signs of hypothermia, sparking rescue efforts.
On Wednesday afternoon, a waterspout that lasted for 20 minutes left more rain than is usually received throughout the summer. 43.8 litres per square metre of water fell, of which 32.8 fell in just 10 minutes, according to reports by the State Meterological Agency (AEMET).
This value is worryingly close to the 40.6 litres per square meter that fell in 10 minutes on September 26 2022.

Orange warnings have been activated this afternoon, affecting Altiplano and Vega del Segura, with yellow warnings for the rest of the region.
Currently, Isaac Newton Street (La Ñora) is closed in the municipality of Murcia, along with several other roads including the La Paloma highway and the Cubes roundabout.
On Monday afternoon, streets were flooded and transformed into raging rivers, along with landslides, roads being cut off and damage to buildings.
The Emergency Coordination Centre 112 were allegedly called out to 324 issues related to rain and storms, of which most were because the water was not draining correctly or because trees and other obstacles had blocked the road, according to Murcia Today.
There are, however, no reports of significant injuries related to these events. In Calasparra, the fire brigade had to rescue a person who became trapped in their car when they attempted to cross a road. They were then taken to hospital with hypothermia.
