Swathes of woodland continued to burn yesterday as strong winds and unseasonally high temperatures fanned the flames.
The blaze, on the outskirts of the northern city of Haifa, took hold on Thursday. At least 41 are known to have died with scores more injured and tens of thousands driven from their homes.

Local firefighters are said to have been overwhelmed by the scale of the disaster.
Many of the dead were prison officer trainees whose bus was engulfed in flames.
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called for international aid, saying it was “a disaster of international proportions”. Britain and nine other nations sent help to dump water on the 100ft-high flames.
Two people were held on suspicion of arson.
