Two held after newborn baby stolen
Two people have been arrested after a newborn baby stolen from a hospital on the outskirts of Frankfurt was found several hours later, German police said.
The baby was born in the clinic early on Thursday morning, but at around noon a woman came into the mother's room pretending to be a nurse and took the girl away, police said in a statement.
Officers launched a major search operation around the Hoechst hospital, and several hours later they were tipped off to search a nearby home. Officers found two 28-year-old women with the baby, police said.
Both were arrested as they could not explain why the baby was with them, police said. A nurse from the hospital and a midwife later identified the missing girl, German news agency DAPD reported.
The 20-year-old mother had handed the baby over as she thought the woman was taking the 7lb newborn for a medical examination.
