Piers interviews Oprah for TV show
Piers Morgan is to open his new prime-time US TV show with an hour-long Oprah Winfrey interview.
Morgan's new show makes its first appearance on January 17, filling the slot once held by Larry King.
The former Daily Mirror editor said he interviewed Winfrey in California this week to give her the debut slot in her show.
CNN has had a bad year in the ratings, losing out to rivals Fox News Channel and MSNBC.
Morgan seemed ready for the competition, saying: "I'm looking forward to the scrap."
He said the New York-based show would run a combination of live and taped interviews, but he is more inclined to the taped shows.
