POLICE are trying to identify whether an English-speaking boy who claims he has spent the last five years living rough in a wood in Germany is listed as a missing British child.

The 17 year old, called Ray, claims he has lost his memory

The 17 year old, called Ray, claims he has lost his memory and does not know where his family come from.

He appeared at Berlin’s city hall on September 5 after claiming his father had died two weeks earlier and he had buried him in woods. He said he had used a compass to reach the city.

German police said yesterday they had asked Interpol to see if he matches any missing person reports in Britain. Berlin Police spokeswoman Claudia Elitok said: “He speaks fluent English and a few words in German. He was found in good condition and is being taken care of by officials.” The Foreign Office is investigating.
