Los Angeles City Attorney spokesman Frank Mateljan said the recommendation to be made in court is based on Lohan's departure from a women's shelter where she had been doing community service.
Lohan spokesman Steve Honig declined to comment.
Lohan is due in court to update a judge on her probation progress.
A city prosecutor is overseeing Lohan's probation in the misdemeanour theft case filed after the actress was charged with taking a 2,500 US dollar necklace without permission. Lohan pleaded no contest in May.
The 25-year-old actress is now trying to complete the majority of her service with the American Red Cross.
