Malaysia opposition leader arrested
A lawyer says Malaysian opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim has been arrested just before he was scheduled to give a statement to police over sodomy allegations.
Sankara Nair said police stopped Mr Anwar's car near his house and took him to the police headquarters. He was not handcuffed.
Mr Nair says "no reason was given" for the arrest.
It was not clear why he was arrested since Mr Anwar was scheduled to go to the police headquarters voluntarily for interrogation over the allegation that he sodomised a former male aide.
Mr Anwar has denied the charge as a political conspiracy.
The sodomy accusation has slowed Mr Anwar's campaign to topple the government.
