Five killed as building collapses
The Red Cross has raised the death toll to at least five from a building collapse in Nigeria's main southern city of Lagos.
Rescue workers are continuing to search for survivors in the rubble.
Earth-moving equipment shifted broken concrete blocks and onlookers dug with their hands to find people who may still remain buried under the residential building that fell down without warning.
Five bodies have been removed so far, with 13 survivors rescued, said John Adeyemo, a Red Cross official at the site.
There was no immediate word on what caused the collapse of the building, which rescue workers estimated as between three and four storeys high.
Many buildings in Lagos are built with blocks made of sand and cement dug from the ocean by scavengers and are considered structurally unsound. Building collapses often occur when rains degrade the handmade blocks.
