BBC Breakfast fans fume 'I thought this was a news programme' as sport dominates show
BBC Breakfast is facing a backlash for its ongoing Women's World Cup coverage on Saturday's instalment of the flagship news programme.
BBC Breakfast: Naga and Ben open the show
Naga Munchetty and Roger Johnson focused on the Women's World Cup ahead of England's match against Haiti during the latest instalment of BBC Breakfast, but many viewers were not impressed with the coverage.
Taking to Twitter, Brian Petrie penned: "#BBCBreakfast I thought that this was a news programme, not a football show."
John Cornelius added: "I’ll just say it once and then shut up for the next few weeks. Football isn’t headline news, and Lionesses is a silly name."
Andy Barton remarked: "#BBCbreakfast news headlines?!! #football... What was the turnout? More like a turnoff…"
Erasmo noted: "Reporter desperately trying to raise the women’s World Cup support to a fever pitch. #BBCBreakfast."

"Have a great weekend. Love #BBCBreakfast Love The #bbcnews Love the #BBC." (sic)

During the show, Naga said: "You may be excited today about the England game as England are hoping to go one step further this summer and win the Women's World Cup for the first time."
Roger added: "Yes, one of the star players who is hoping to help the Lionesses achieve that is Lucy Bronze."
Lucy, 31, is the only player in the squad now with more than 100 caps for her country.
BBC presenter Sarah Rogers was reporting live from the superstar's childhood football club in Alnwick to speak with young players and their coaches.
Youngsters had woken up early to support the Lionesses while enjoying bacon sandwiches ahead of their match in Brisbane, Australia.
Many of the girls at the club had met with Lucy in recent years, with BBC Breakfast sharing a picture of the athlete with players.
