BBC Morning Live host Helen Skelton claps back at 'cheeky monkey' Jon Kay
Both BBC Breakfast and Morning Live have had huge schedule shake ups to mark the new year.
Helen Skelton calls Jon Kay a 'cheeky monkey'
Morning Live presenter Helen Skelton clapped back at BBC Breakfast's Jon Kay live on air after he made a cheeky jibe about her appearance. Both Helen and co-presenter Gethin Jones were appearing on the early morning magazine show to discuss what was coming up on their programme.
Today’s episode marked the first one since a huge scheduling shake-up saw them moved to a later start of 9.30am and extended to 75 mins daily. Ahead of the first show of 2024, Jon Kay and Sarah Campbell crossed live to the Salford-based studio which is home to Morning Live.
Jon, 54, playfully asked if their late start time now means they get more time in bed. "So I mean, I know your programme is going on longer, you've been extended, but does this mean you get a bit of a lie-in?" He enquired.
"Do you know what, I thought that but they made us come in early just to make sure we were ready today because we've got a lot to get through, but thanks for bringing that up as well Jon!" Gethin responded.
"We'll just hold the fort until 9.30am when you've had your hair done and you're ready, that's fine," Jon quipped referring to the fact that BBC Breakfast has also been extended.
However his comment was picked up by Helen, 40, who clapped back exclaiming: "We are ready, what are you on about? You cheeky monkey!"
This led to peals of laughter from both sets of presenters who struggled to compose themselves.
News of the schedule changes was first announced by Jon on X, formerly knonw as Twitter, on Monday night.
The 54-year-old shared: "It’s a big week for the #BBCBreakfast team. From now on, the programme will be 15 minutes longer Mon-Fri.
"Then at 0930 our friends and neighbours @BBCMorningLive take over - and their show has been extended, too! The UK’s two biggest morning shows just got BIGGER!"

BBC Breakfast used to run between 6am and 9.15am, with Morning Live airing until 10am.
Jon usually presents BBC Breakfast with Sally Nugent from Monday to Wednesday, while Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty lead the show from Thursday to Saturday.
Last year the programme launched a new multi-purpose studio which is located in Media City, in Salford, and it is shared with BBC Sport.
BBC Breakfast is on BBC One daily from 6am. Morning Live is on BBC One Monday through Friay at 9.30am.
