Eurovision fury as Brits demand 'bring back Sam Ryder' after Olly Alexander sabotage
On Saturday night, BBC viewers saw Switzerland announced as this year's winner of the Eurovision Song Contest.
Olly Alexander performs at Eurovision Song Contest 2024
It looks as though Eurovision fans were left less than impressed on Saturday night as the UK finished in 18th place. Singer Olly Alexander was representing Britain with his song Dizzy.
However, it seemed as though people weren’t blown away by his performance. Once the jury and public votes were counted, the 26-year-old was given a total of 46 points.
Olly didn’t receive any points from the public and as a result, the UK was placed towards the bottom of the leaderboard. Since the scores were announced fans of the international song contest have been left outraged.
Many are calling for Sam Ryder to return to the stage next year, after finishing in second place with his song Space Man in 2022. Taking to Twitter, @Juniper700 said: “Bring back SAM RYDER!”
Agreeing, @Juniper700 added: “Indeed, it was a fabulous performance. He is such a joy. Love him.” @Jools_T wrote: “I thought the same thing! Just a genuinely lovely person/performer with a good song!”
@Fluffysocks1993 commented: “The best performance for many years for us.”
With @Charlie_Gaze shared: “We've gone from the brilliance of Sam Ryder two years ago, to Olly Alexander tonight. What a disappointment. It wouldn't be a surprise if we finished last, on the back of that woeful performance.”
However, there were some people who believed Olly should’ve been awarded some points from the public for his performance.
@MaeCymruAmByth tweeted: “Justice for @alexander_olly - he was absolutely incredible #Eurovision2024.”

On the other end of the scale, Switzerland dominated the competition with a total of 591 points, with Croatia in close second after being awarded 547.
Representing Switzerland was 24-year-old Nemo and their song The Code.
Praising their win, Olly paid tribute to Nemo on Instagram as he wrote: “Nemo!!! You did it!! I’m so so proud of you.
“It’s been such an honour to be on this journey with you. You broke the code.”
When Nemo was announced as this year’s winner, the singer was clearly overwhelmed before taking to the stage to perform once again.
Touching on their triumph, they said: "I hope this contest can live up to its promise and continue to stand for peace and dignity for every person in this world."
