APTIS: Jasmine shows couple viral 'giant potato' monument
A Place in the Sun's Jasmine Harman was on hand to help another family find their own slice of paradise abroad today.
Married couple Mandy and Rae, from Northampton, were on the lookout for a new property in Famagusta, Eastern Cyprus on the Channel 4 show. With them retiring and their two daughters having grown up they’re planning a permanent move to the Mediterranean island.
They hoped for a two or three-bedroom bungalow or villa, with a specific request for a "nice big kitchen". A pool was preferable but not essential with a decent outside space.
Their budget was £150,000 but the couple had wiggle room of £25,000 more. With all their needs laid out, Jasmine took them on a tour of five properties as she hoped that one would be the perfect match for Mandy and Rae.
However, amid the house search Jasmine decided to take a little detour to view something quite different from a beautiful property. She took the couple to have a look at a giant potato.
As the Channel 4 presenter took a break from looking at homes, she explained: "I couldn't resist stopping off here, just on the road, to show you this new monument that's been erected recently. The giant potato."
Jasmine said that it has gone viral online, and Cypriots are so proud of their vegetables that they decided to spend £8,000 on the unusual statue.
The host went on to give a family insight as she spoke about her grandmother and her childhood. She said: "One of my favourite dishes that my yayá, my grandmother, used to make is Cypriot potato salad.
"They put garlic and coriander, spring onions, olive oil, lashings of lemon and it is absolutely delicious."

The five homes that Jasmine showed Mandy and Rae included a £150,000 three-bedroom villa in Vrysoulles and a home with a pool in Ayia Thekla for £177,000. However, the buyers seemed unimpressed with the start of the search.
The host continued to show them homes, including another three-bedroom villa for £169,000 and a quaint bungalow on the market for £152,000. The fifth and final property was a three-bedroom home for £160,000.
The couple remained unimpressed and decided not to make an offer on any of the properties.
