Maya Jama says Love Island 'really does work'

Contrary to popular belief, with many splits and break-ups reported, Love Island “really works”, said star presenter Maya Jama.

On the eve of itv2’s 11^th series tomorrow, Jama said the format produces “heartwarming moments” that are long-lasting.

She said: “Kai and Sanam recently got engaged and they were the winners of my first ever series [four years ago]. I got to watch their love story blossom and it’s proof that Love Island really works.”

She believes the villa creates the right conditions.

Jama explained: “We all experience extra bursts of love when we are in the sun, when we are relaxed and in a nice environment. Everyone is feeling sexy in their bikinis so I think it’s the perfect formula to find a connection.”

This year, one female contestant, Patsy Field, 29, from Orpington, has a disability.

“I’ve got something very special about me,” she said, “which is my disability, it’s a condition I was born with called Ebs Palsy.

“It doesn't define who I am, but it makes me a little different, although I’ve learnt to get on with it and It’s never held me back.”

She has a novel claim to fame: “I’ve performed a duet with Tyson Fury! I was doing a season in Magaluf and we were both in the VIP area of a club and I got chatting.

"They were so lovely, we sang ‘Hold You’ by Gyptian and I rapped the Nicki Minaj verse, it was such a slay.”
