A Place In The Sun presenter Lucy Alexander has admitted she related to the househunters in her latest episode (June 10) of the Channel 4 property show as they sought an accessible holiday home. Retired Scotttish couple Edith and William from Stirlingshire wanted to buy their first sunny bolthole so they can enjoy summer holidays with their grandchildren, including their granddaughter who is a wheelchair user.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk Lucy, who recently revealed she would love to appear on Strictly Come Dancing, confessed she had really enjoyed sourcing them a property since she could relate to the accessibility issues they faced. Lucy's daughter, EastEnders actress Kitty Castledine, who plays Penny Branning in the soap, became wheelchair-bound at the age of seven after developing transverse myelitis, a rare disease of the central nervous system.

"I think that people with any disability - maybe people that have got elderly parents going on holiday maybe with walking disabilities - I think it's quite important to flag up [accessibility] at all times. Especially with me having Kitty I'm very conscious of everywhere we go and everything we do I have to look at the access. So I think it was a really nice episode and we obviously had a lot in common," Lucy said.

"I think it [accessibility] is important and I think it's just something if you go on holiday quite often - I would have taken my mum and dad on holiday and as they get older people don't want to walk up loads of steps, people want ramps or lifts - that it is more important.

"So I think it was a really lovely episode and William and Edith were some of my favourite buyers. It really does make a huge difference to the episode and to the program when you've got such a lovely couple and they were just a complete joy to film with because they have a beautiful family that they were looking for. I really genuinely wanted to find them somewhere and they needed to tick a lot of boxes.

"I just really enjoyed spending my time with them looking for suitable spaces, looking at ways [properties were accessible], all the things that I think people really should be more aware of anyway.

"This is why I'm such a fan of new build hotels, because everything has to be accessible now, which makes my family's life a lot easier.

"That was something that I was very aware of while looking for them. But we had a really great fun week," Lucy gushed.

The couple's wish list included a minimum of two bedrooms and they wanted two bathrooms if possible. They also ideally wanted the use of a pool.

However, close proximity to golf courses and bars and restaurants was also on their checklist alongside their accessibility requirements.

Lucy was undaunted by their requests as having adapted her family home for her daughter she is very conscious of the importance of accessible housing.

"The more accessible a home is, the more people can benefit from it," she pointed out. "Young families, anyone with a disability needing space for a wheelchair or even the elderly...

"In my experience, homes with good accessibility attract a wider range of buyers and tenants resulting in increased demand which can only be a good thing.

"I love helping our house hunters on the show think about all these choices and options," she explained.

A Place In The Sun is on Channel 4 daily at 4pm.
