DOCUMENTARY: Jimmy Doherty’s Farming Heroes
IT'S five years since Jimmy Doherty swapped the hustle and bustle of city life for the Suffolk countryside.
He has put all his time and effort into sustainable farming and is a strong believer of traditional methods.
This new series sees him embark on a journey across Britain to study UK farming at a time when the future of the industry has never mattered more.
With the credit crunch gripping the nation, Doherty will look at whether farmers can deliver food we can trust at affordable prices.
He begins his quest in the east of England, home to many of the country’s biggest producers, where he visits a 6,000-acre farm that grows a large proportion of our wheat and cereal crops.
As the harvest is brought in, Doherty gets behind the wheel of a £300,000 combine harvester, and also looks at how traditional farming methods, including a horse-drawn binder, are still used to collect the wheat.
