BBC PROMS 2008: BBC2: 6.50PM
See if you can guess who once made the following statement: “People can say I'm a classical violinist if they want to,” declared this famous person, “but I've always viewed myself as a musician who plays music, and not just a certain part of it.”
No, it wasn’t Wayne Rooney, although I must say that’s a jolly good guess. It was, in fact, quirky musical maestro Nigel Kennedy who’s back at the Proms this year for the first time since the mid-80s.
Here we have highlights from his two recent performances, including Elgar's Violin Concerto and bits from Nigel’s Late Night Jazz Prom.
For the latter, he performs with his very own Nigel Kennedy Quintet (as opposed, that is, to anyone else’s Nigel Kennedy Quintet).
